The Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management (DN), with assistance from the County Governor of Sør-Trøndelag, arranged a Nordic Wetland Conference and Ramsar Meeting at Brekstad (outside Trondheim) 4 - 7 May 2004.The main basis for this meeting was to discuss the follow up of the Nordic Council of Ministers' report ",Nordic Wetland Conservation", (Tema Nord Report 2004/506), in light of obligations under the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar). The conference program included thematic sessions, exploring overviews on working with wetlands, global to regional perspectives on wetlands, wetlands conservation and management, wetlands - more than birds, possible increased and improved sub-regional co-operation, and a field visit to the Ørlandet Ramsar site.Approximately 50 participants from 10 countries discussed the findings and recommendations in the Nordic report, shared experiences and gained new knowledge, developed a closer Ramsar network between neighbouring countries, and discussed possible further sub-regional co-operation.
