Possibilities and Challenges?: Men's Reconciliation of Work and Family Life - Conference Report
Responsible organisation
2006 (English)Other (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
Abstract [en]

The reconciliation of work and family life is one of the main societal questions in the Nordic countries. It touches on the lives of both women and men. However, the discussion on the subject has so far mostly focused on women. The conference "Possibilities and Challenges - Men's Reconciliation of Work and Family Life" examined the other part of the picture: the changing role of men and what can be done to support active fatherhood and men's reconciliation of work and family life. &nbsp, What possibilities and challenges do men themselves consider important? Is the diversity of men's experiences and situations given too little attention in the discussion about reconciliation of work and family life? In the conference the cultural structures related to men's reconciliation of work and family life and their changes were explained. Men's experiences regarding reconciliation were looked at and the measures that haven been taken in the Nordic countries to help men reconcile their work and family lives were examined. &nbsp, Printed version available mid June 2006.
