Mittmedias vägval: Radikal innovationskultur möter traditionstyngd koncern2024Bok (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [sv]

Flying green - A Nordic policy roadmap for the implementation of electric aviation2024Annet (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

Electric aviation (EA) has emerged as a promising alternative to mitigate the climate impacts of aviation. The Nordic countries aspire to lead the way in adoption of this new technology and have set ambitious targets for its implementation in the near future. However, numerous open questions and challenges must still be addressed before electric aviation can become reality. Is the political commitment in the Nordic Region sufficient to support those initiatives? Where will the necessary funding come from? Are the required technological advancements and infrastructure in place?

These are among the key issues addressed in this policy brief that takes stock of the primary obstacles to implementing electric aviation and explores actionable solutions and introduces a policy roadmap outlining the critical steps required to make electric aviation reality in the coming years.

Sustainable levels of human activities in the Nordic marine environment2024Bok (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

Coastal and marine ecosystems are under pressure from various human activities, which exert direct and indirect impacts on underwater biota. Relevant management policies urgently need detailed information on ecological impacts of the activities. The COMA project analyzed the impacts of human activities and pressures on marine ecosystem were from three different viewpoints: (1) What evidence there is of ecosystem responses to single and multiple pressures?, (2) How different human activities impact the marine ecosystem?, and (3) What evidence there is of the sustainable levels of human activities? By applying a review, a meta analysis and three case studies, COMA addressed the questions, provided advice and suggested an approach for management.

Navigating Pandemic Phases: Public Health Authority Communication during COVID-19 in Norway2024Bok (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

During a pandemic, the advice issued by public health authorities undergoes significant scrutiny, potentially affecting public adherence to recommended measures. Trust and trustworthiness become key. This book analyses the rhetorical strategies of the Norwegian public health authorities as the COVID-19 pandemic moved through phases that presented different rhetorical problems and challenges. Many consider the Norwegian response successful, making it a particularly interesting case. Adopting an organisation-focused viewpoint, the analysis examines communication strategies through a dataset collected as the pandemic evolved. This included observations within communication departments of the main public health agencies during March and April 2020. The study offers five key insights: 1) A pandemic rhetorical situation has changing constraints and opportunities that influence the agency of the rhetor and necessitates bottom-up, continuing situational analysis and attention to perceptions; 2) The notion of “the rhetorical situation” conceptualises different phases that “bleed” into each other; 3) Trust and trustworthiness are negotiated through specific rhetorical strategies; 4) Transparency is the most crucial strategy; 5) Authorities used a combination of invitational rhetoric, providing a role for the citizens to willingly contribute to curbing the virus, and imperative form through simple directives that citizens were expected to follow.

The primary audience for this book is scholars and practitioners within crisis communication. The book is written by a team from the “Pandemic Rhetoric” project, financed by the Research Council of Norway, consisting of Øyvind Ihlen (University of Oslo), Sine Nørholm Just (Roskilde University), Jens E. Kjeldsen (University of Bergen), Ragnhild Mølster (University of Bergen), Truls Strand Offerdal (University of Oslo), Joel Rasmussen (Örebro University), and Eli Skogerbø (University of Oslo).

Hvordan fremme mangfold i sykepleierutdanninger? Førstehjelpspakke – Anbefalinger fra prosjektet "Share the care"2024Annet (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Gender disparity in the Nordic healthcare sector has significant social, cultural, and economic implications in societies that prioritise equality. Despite their progressive stance, Nordic countries continue to grapple with the persistent overrepresentation of women in healthcare, reflecting a broader gender division. This policy brief is based on the “Share the Care” project findings on gender segregation in healthcare, particularly in nursing. It provides key recommendations to increase diversity in nursing education. They can be implemented at different administrative levels, starting with the faculty level at the university and then moving on to the regional and national levels.

Policy Brief - Nordic Climate Actions: Showcasing scalable solutions aligned with the Global Stocktake decision objectives2024Annet (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this policy brief is to highlight Nordic solutions aligned with the global stocktake decision, to both support and inspire the Nordic countries and other nations in accelerating action towards 1.5°C pathways by scaling existing solutions. It’s based upon the main project report which identifies and showcases 13 Nordic climate action initiatives across various sectors. All of these climate action initiatives are aligned with paragraph 28 of the GST decision. These Nordic success stories have been evaluated for their potential to be scaled up and replicated beyond the Nordic region. We hope that this policy brief can inspire actors across sectors in accelerating global action and encourage greater collaboration towards a more sustainable future, paving the way for the broader adoption of effective climate strategies worldwide.

Nordic Climate Actions:Showcasing scalable solutions aligned with the Global Stocktake Decision objectives2024Bok (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

This report highlights 13 Nordic climate action initiatives across sectors such as agriculture, forestry, heating, electricity, transport, industry, renewable energy, and waste management. It examines how these initiatives align with paragraph 28 of the Global Stocktake Decision, adopted at COP28 in 2023. The case studies feature both technical and non-technical solutions from the Nordic countries, showcasing innovative approaches to addressing climate change. These initiatives demonstrate that ambitious climate policies can climate policies can be combined with economic develop-ment. However, challenges remain in scaling solutions globally. The Nordic experience underscores the importance of long-term policy stability, local and stakeholder engagement, and strong public-private partnerships. Key findings are organized into three main lessons and three critical enablers for success.

Fish stocks in Skagerrak with management shortcomings2024Bok (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

Skagerrak is a unique ecosystem with a large diversity of habitats and species, but the management of the fisheries resources has shortcomings to be addressed. Here we shed light on the current management situation for a range of commercially valuable species in Skagerrak. Some of these species show increasing trends in abundance while others are declining. However, in either case, we argue that species and fisheries will benefit from improved management, but to succeed, Norway, Sweden and Denmark must come together and develop a data- and research-based unified local management plan to underpin a sustainable utilization of Skagerrak's sea food resources in the future.

Spatial population structure and connectivity among marine populations in the Skagerrak: implications for marine biodiversity conservation2024Bok (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

Most marine species in the Skagerrak have populations that are genetically distinct from populations in the surrounding North Sea, Kattegat, and Baltic Sea. A considerable number of these species also have multiple distinct populations within the Skagerrak, particularly along the coast and inside fjords. Overall, the Skagerrak is well connected with adjacent seas through passive dispersal of eggs and larvae and active migration of adults. The persistence of distinct local populations despite the large potential for connectivity calls for population-specific conservation and management of marine biodiversity in the Skagerrak. Management should therefore strive to be ecosystem-based, yet species- and population-specific to avoid neglecting or overexploiting vulnerable local populations.

Protecting the Skagerrak for biodiversity, food and climate2024Bok (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

The Skagerrak is a productive miniature deep sea with diverse habitat and nature types harbouring distinct marine populations. Marine protection in Skagerrak is weak overall, especially considering areas with regulation of bottom-contacting fisheries. Marine protected areas in Skagerrak (MPAs) are largely restricted to shallow coastal areas, meaning that vulnerable and ecologically important deep-water habitat types are poorly protected. The deepest parts of the Skagerrak are situated in the Norwegian Trench, which is home to vulnerable marine ecosystems, and constitute the most important carbon sink in the greater North Sea region. Establishment of a coherent network of MPAs in the Skagerrak will require international coordination, where marine spatial planning should consider the benefits of protection to biodiversity, fisheries and climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Reinventing aviation in the Nordics: The state of electric aviation and the case for enhanced industry-government collaboration.2024Annet (Annet vitenskapelig)
    Abstract [en]

NEA, an industry-driven collaboration and innovation project supported and co-funded by Nordic Innovation since its launch in 2019, was in 2024 tasked with assessing progress and identifying obstacles to the realisation of electric aviation in the Nordics. In response to a mandate from the Nordic Ministers for Transport and Infrastructure, NEA embarked on a Nordic Policy Tour in 2024.

This tour brought together over 100 representatives from the aviation industry, policymakers, experts, and stakeholders in mobility and transport across all five Nordic countries. The goal was clear: to align industry and governmental actions to expedite the implementation of electric aviation in the Nordics, including cross-border flights.

This report shares findings and provides recommendations that aim to deliver a technology transition where the Nordics are setting the global standard.

Nordic Hydrogen Valleys: value chain mappingacross the region2024Bok (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

In this first comprehensive mapping of Nordic hydrogen value chains, an overview of the status and the nature of clean hydrogen projects across the Nordic region is established, based on definitions of “Nordic hydrogen valley” and “Nordic hydrogen hotspot”, specifically developed for the mapping carried out in this report. The mapping results are visualized in an interactive digital tool (available at nordich2valleys.org), at the same time ensuring a joint Nordic digital platform as the basis for future updates of the Nordic hydrogen value chain landscape. In addition to the mapping, the report analyses the potential of clean hydrogen-based fuels in Arctic maritime transport. Finally, the report carries out an analysis of drivers, barriers and policy measures regarding the development of hydrogen valleys in the Nordics and on that basis policy recommendations are highlighted.

Future-Proofing Nordic Construction: Policy Paths for Building within the Safe Operating Space2024Bok (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

This report presents a set of recommendations to shift the Nordic construction sector towards operating within the planetary boundaries. The recommendations have been extracted from nearly three years of extensive collaboration with stakeholders across the construction sector, including urban planners, architects, engineers, policymakers, and activists. Through debates, interviews, and roundtable discussions, participants shaped a set of recommendations to guide the next five years of the Nordic Vision 2030. Addressing the profound systemic and cultural challenges of the construction sector requires more than legislation and technological solutions. Discussions have elevated beyond immediate solutions, exploring ecological economics, life-centric worldviews, and redefining the concept of a "good life" based on culture and social connectedness.

Policy Brief: Nordic Cities and GHG Emissions Reduction – Aligning with the Mitigation Work Programme for Climate-Resilient Urban Development2024Bok (Annet (populærvitenskap, debatt, mm))
    Abstract [en]

This publication highlights how cities, responsible for 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions, can transition toward sustainability. Drawing on Nordic examples, the brief outlines three key areas for reducing urban emissions: spatial planning with low-carbon infrastructure, electrification of energy systems, and enhancing carbon storage through green and blue spaces. Nordic countries showcase how integrating ambitious climate policies into urban planning can support net-zero goals. However, challenges like regulatory barriers, grid capacity, and balancing land use require coordinated efforts and investment. The recommendations aim to inspire global cities to adopt similar strategies.
