We are pleased to introduce the report, "Municipal Waste Statistics Inconsistencies: A Nordic Perspective", a result of a collaborative effort by Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. This report delves into the critical question: Are the variations in municipal waste among Nordic countries a reflection of actual differences or is it a result of inconsistent applications of the common EU methodology across these countries? Through an in-depth examination, the report identifies the significant differences in the application of the common EU method. The findings serve as a knowledge base, underscoring the need for a more accurate and pragmatic approach to ensure consistent waste data across EU member states. Such consistency is pivotal for designing effective policies for waste reduction and recycling, and for a comparable and accurate evaluation of each country's success in reaching municipal waste targets.
