Abstract [en]

Leveraging Nordic and Baltic expertise in digital twin technologies, the Nordic Cryosphere Digital Twin project (NOCOS DT) piloted new climate models for sectors like navigability, engineering, vessel design, fishing, shipping, and renewable energy. NOCOS DT tools support climate-smart practices and risk assessment, enhancing safety and efficiency in Arctic and Baltic Sea shipping. Beyond immediate industry benefits, long-term societal and economic impacts include more effective policymaking, stronger innovation capacity, and improved climate adaptation, supporting decisions and measures that also benefit traditional hunting and fishing by indigenous communities.
