Abstract [en]

This report is a documentation of the RJ Nord expert seminar “Restorative Justice and Practice in the Nordic Region” held on the Åland Islands in May 2025. Restorative Justice (RJ) uses dialogue to address conflict, crime, or polarization by involving those affected. RJ has the potential to change society’s narrative from one of separation to one in which interpersonal connection is strong. While RJ varies across Nordic countries, there’s a shared call for stronger coordination, common standards, and cross-regional research. The goal of the RJ Nord network is to unite Nordic professionals to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and advocate for RJ in the Nordic region, fostering understanding and strengthening democratic values. The network shares a vision and objectives, as expressed in the Åland Declaration was drafted during the seminar.
